Today I offer a two parter because essentially, I don’t really have a whole lot to say on either subject. To part 1: TURNING UP THE HEAT.
I’m not a huge fan of texting. In fact, I find it kind of retarded. The telegraph came first. And then the telephone almost 150 years ago. For some illogical reason, youth culture has decided to turn back the hands of time to an era when there was no telephone. I’m befuddled.
Initially, I simply resisted text messaging. But then one day, I missed a Village Voice ad when an on-and-off client decided to text her desire for an ad that week. It was then and only then that I relented and added texting to my repertoire.
While I’m not really a freak for young girls, most of the women I’ve been involved with over the past decade or two are many years my junior. Predictably, they prefer texting to communicate. Again, mostly, I don’t get it except for one interesting aspect. Women like to turn up a relationship’s heat with this “what’s old is new” form of communication.
I was reminded of that recently when first, I got in a shmassle with a love interest. Following were makeup texts in one of which the woman indicated she longs to be held by somebody she actually cares for! First, whoa! Finally a woman with good albeit eccentric tastes. And second…all this done via texting with not a moment of verbal intercourse. Not sure about the basic MO of the entire deal! But I like the outcome. I’m heating up my thumbs as I write.
I do have one exceptional challenge/hurdle to clear in this arena. I use a crappy old flip phone figuring however naively that it’s more difficult for Big Brother to open up the mic and camera on the older models. The problem is that texting is much more cumbersome on one of those old phones as there’s no keyboard function and each key has 3 or 4 different letters.
To part two: THE EMPTY NEST. I have no wife nor children. So this isn’t about the traditional empty nest syndrome with which we’re all familiar. My empty nest was created the moment I killed off this blog’s local ads…which led to an almost complete termination of communication with my old clients. In fact, since June 1st when I pulled all the ads, I’ve stayed in touch with just one Korean phone girl.
And ya know…that’s really a shame. By the time I was out of the Backpage, Village Voice, and Eros business, it was just the best of the best with whom I dealt for this site. And the girls I visited were very loyal and decent. At least with me! I guess I could call up the girls and socialize – or make the suggestion. But on balance…probably not a good idea. Prying eyes might very well accuse me of being “one of them.” And it wouldn’t be the first time! Thus, I abide my very own empty nest in the interest of those prying eyes understanding that I’m really out of the business. Just part of my new reality I’ll have to deal with. What are ya gonna do?
