I know it’s an old joke. But I couldn’t help but laugh when reading BURT REYNOLDS’ observation on DONALD TRUMP in the former’s biography: “Donald Trump is the kind of guy who was born on third base and thought he hit a triple.” I mention this after the New York Times published a 13,000 word expose just yesterday – detailing the $491 million (in today’s money) that Trump’s father gave him over the years. Donald Trump may portray himself as a self-made man. But the New York Times begs to differ.
And then there’s BRETT KAVANAUGH, who I assume will become a Supreme Court Justice in just a few days. Republican defenders notwithstanding, I’m convinced that Brett was an entitled private prep school and college frat boy jock who caroused indiscreetly and drank to excess. He wasn’t the first. And he won’t be the last. But I’m not sure Americans really want that kind of guy as the final authority on laws of the land.
It amazes me that these two individuals have risen to lofty heights of American government. Maybe OBAMA wasn’t this or he wasn’t all that. But he was a decent human being – a good family man – and a guy who did his best for the country. Trump is not a decent guy. And his interests are all self-centered. The jury’s out on BK. But he should count himself lucky that I and people of my opinion aren’t sitting on the jury (or senate to be accurate). Because I think he’s full of shit.
And it isn’t even his boyhood behavior that offends me as much as the ridiculous explanations he proffers about all his debt and how he paid it off. If you’re not aware, the dude claims he purchased blocks of Washington National baseball tickets to the tune of six figures – and then sold them at face value to his buddies. Funny how not one of those individuals has come forward to corroborate that story. As a man who’s been busted hard for his financial indiscretions by the federal government, I don’t understand why that isn’t the central issue with BK’s nomination.
And here’s a little more about Kavanaugh. He’s an only child raised in a two parent household. Both parents are lawyers…and his father a lobbyist for the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association. Which I find curious as his son’s reputation is currently swirling around the bowl and headed down the hopper.
Well anyway, as a convicted felon, I’m not allowed to vote. So whatever my opinion is it doesn’t matter. But I think America would be better served to have its citizens as informed and intuitive as I am. I can see bull shit artists coming from a mile off. Years in the music world, taxi business, and adult advertising hustle have trained me well. And daddy’s little boys don’t fool me for a second.
